Development of Remote Operating System using FWA in Isolate Island

Abstract(in English) Our research group has developed an integrated system for Tsuken Island in Okinawa. This system consists of a small-scale hybrid generating system, an irrigation system and a network infrastructure. A remote monitoring and control system would be one of the effective approaches to make the integrated system secured. Since Tsuken Island in Okinawa is one of the digital divide areas then it is difficult to improve broadband network in these are. To provide a stable communication using satellite and ground network, it is necessary to keep good quality communication and working rate. Recently, we are preparing to implement FWA (Fixed Wireless Access) and WiMAX. These specifications will be used to realize long-distance transmission. We connect University of the Ryukyus and Tsuken Island using FWA 18GHz and 26GHz. We have been examining the transmission characteristics since April, 2006. In this paper, we explain a small-scale hybrid generating system, an irrigation system and transmission characteristics.
