Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Information Technology Center of the University of Tokyo provides students and faculty staff with the Educational Campuswide Computing System (ECCS). From years of operation of ECCS, we have learnt the management cost of over 1,000 clients, dozens of servers and network switches is a siginificant problem. In March 2008, we introduced the new ECCS (ECCS2008) based on a NetBoot system with a thin client management tool. The tool lightens the work load for operation of the NetBoot system such as updating boot image files and changing broken clients. In this paper, we report how we reduced the operation and management cost of the ECCS2008 using this tool.
