Portable terahertz imaging system and its application to art analyses

Abstract(in English) Terahertz spectroscopy and imaging technologies have been dramatically progressed, and commercial systems for laboratory use are available. To make the terahertz technology more common, we have developed a portable terahertz imaging system using a quantum cascade laser terahertz source and a micro bolometer arrays detector. As an example of applications to art examination, a painting sample with traditional Japanese pigments was observed. The differences of materials were clearly observed in real time. This result suggests that the portable terahertz imaging system is applicable to various industries that require rapid throughput examinations.
