An Efficient Discovery Method for Optical Switched Access Network

Abstract(in English) OLT needs to discover ONUs newly connected to OLT in the Ethernet Passive Optical Network (E-PON) and the proposed Ethernet Optical Switched Access Network (E-OSAN); OLT measures round trip times (RTTs) between OLT and ONUs and then assigns a Logical Link Identifier (LLID) to them. Previously, a discovery method needs to be completed till n discovery period, where n denotes the number of switch port of Optical Switching Module (OSM). This paper proposes an efficient method that completes discovery only in one period. This paper also evaluates the discovery completion maximum time needed in the proposed method, as compared with that of E-PON.
