Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Cognitive radio (CR) system realizes dynamic spectrum access after analyzing radio frequency environment and detecting spectrum opportunity. Robust and reliable spectrum sensing is a key factor to discover spectrum opportunity while rendering maximum protection to legacy services. Spectrum sensing can entirely be performed locally at a given CR or can be performed in distributed manner by several CRs and aggregate information is shared among them. A CR also may employ distributed standalone spectrum sensors to obtain sensing information. In particular the later two cases enhance the overall quality of sensing by taking advantage of the space diversity. To ensure the smooth exchange of sensing information between spectrum sensors and other functional entities in cognitive radio system, a common interface that defines a common data structure would be beneficial. This will promote independent evolution of spectrum sensing technology from the other functional entities of cognitive radio. The IEEE P1900.6 working group (WG) has been initiated to develop a standard for logical interface that will be used to exchange sensing and related information between spectrum sensors and their clients. This paper gives highlight on the major trends of spectrum sensing techniques and their relevance to the IEEE P1900.6 WG activity. The paper also provides some practical examples of the logical interface usage.
