Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) This paper evaluates a power saving control function for battery-powered portable wireless LAN (WLAN) access points (APs) we proposed, to extend the battery life. Although the IEEE802.11 standard supports a power saving control function for STAs, it does not support that for APs. To enable a sleep state for an AP, the AP forces the stations (STAs) to refrain from transmitting frames by using the network allocation vector (NAV) while the AP is sleeping. Thus the sleep state for the AP can be used without causing frame loss at the STAs. Numerical analysis and simulation results show that the newly proposed control extends the battery life and conserves power, compared to the conventional control.
