Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In wireless sensor networks, it is widely known that packet payload aggregation in the uplink routes to the sink node can considerably improve channel utilization. On the other hand, increase of aggregation delay at each relay node could cause unacceptable end-to-end delay, and thus aggregation scheme should be carefully designed so that delay increase is as small as possible. This paper presents a novel adaptive packet aggregation method in wireless sensor networks where waiting time for aggregation at each relay node is adaptively determined by accounting for total amount of relay traffic of the node and the hop count from the node to the sink node. This aims at improving channel utilization and also at reduction of packet collision between adjacent relay nodes on each route by differentiating waiting time of those nodes. Performance evaluation by computer simulation shows that the proposed scheme can reduce end-to-end packet delay by about 20%, and improve sensor network lifetime by about 10%.
