Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) MPEG is an abbreviated expression of "Moving Picture Experts Group." It means both standard developing group and specification itself for audio-visual representation at ISO/IEC JTC 1. Major MPEG standards are MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4 and MPEG-4 AVC. Among them, MPEG-2 is used for DVD and HDTV and MPEG-4 AVC is used for one-segment mobile TV broadcasting, Blu-ray Disk video coding and YouTube. In this report, mainly MPEG-2 video coding system is introduced since it certainly consumes a lot of network bandwidths and how compressed bitstreams are generated and transported is described.
