Performance Evaluation of a Spectrum Sharing Method with Joint Power Control and Spectrum Aggregation Techniques

Abstract(in English) Next generation mobile communication systems should be timely deployed. Spectrum sharing techniques are attracting approach to facilitate smooth migration toward new mobile systems. In spectrum sharing, the new system (a secondary system) can access a shared band under the condition that the incumbent systems (primary systems) should be fully protected. The new system, however, could not ensure sufficient coverage and throughput if the system accesses only shared band. In this paper, we propose a new spectrum access method; a joint power control and spectrum aggregation scheme, to fully exploit the conventional exclusive band and the shared band with the incumbent systems. The spectrum aggregation is performed so that a base station can assign both the exclusive and shared portions of the bands to users in good conditions to enhance its throughput while the base station can assign only exclusive portion to the users, who can not access the shared spectrum to avoid interference, in order to ensure their coverage. The power control of the secondary system is used in the shared band in order to avoid un-desired interference. Simulation results show that the proposed method simultaneously improves a sector throughput performance and a fairness without causing any harmful interference to the existing systems.
