Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In multi-hop wireless networks, broadcasting using flooding causes significant packet loss and battery power consumption, which is referred to as the broadcast storm problem. In this article, we study a multi-source broadcasting system, where source nodes generate packets independently, and apply Multi-Source Network Coding (MSNC) to it in order to resolve the broadcast storm problem. When MSNC is applied, the number of relayed packets is reduced by encoding several packets into a single packet at intermediate nodes. With simulation experiments, we investigate the effect of length of a coding vector in MSNC on the number of relayed packets. We also compare performance of MSNC with that of probabilistic flooding, where a node relays a packet with a fixed probability. The simulation experiments show that MSNC reduces the number of relayed packets significantly and outperforms probabilistic flooding in terms of packet loss probability. This means that MSNC not only reduces the number of relay packets, but also enhances robustness of the broadcasting system against packet loss.
