Method of network reliability evaluation considering failure frequency and severity

Abstract(in English) The level of network reliability has to be achieved not only in the network-design phase but also in the network-operation phase because the period from the design to the deployment tends to shorten in IP networks. It is important that the level of network reliability is understood by analyzing the network failure data and the corrective action is selected by using these results. Therefore, in this paper, a method to analyze the failure rate for failure severity and to evaluate the network reliablity is proposed. This paper describes the procedure to calculate the probability plot by normalizing the upper cumlative frequency, the scheme to estimate the characterestics of network reliability, and the evaluation method of overall network reliability. Additionally, the feasibility of the proposed method is verified by applying to the network outage data. Moreover, we consider the requirement for the valuation in the network operation and management phase, and clarify the future issues.
