Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In this talk and paper, I present information technologies, including pattern recognition technology, to support reading historical mokkans. "Mokkan" is the generic name given to a kind of Japanese historical documents that have handwritten characters on wooden tablets. Most of the historical mokkans excavated from under the ground of old ruins have been damaged. I have engaged in researches of image processing, handwriting character recognition (retrieval), context processing, information-sharing, and pen-based user interface to support historians reading mokkans. Also, I have engaged in digital-archiving of the historical mokkans. The achievements of these activities have been appreciated by the historians.
