Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We studied about the requirement to make the insertion loss of a mechanical splice in hole-assisted fibers low as one of a mechanical splice in single-mode fibers. First, we studied about which cause affects the insertion loss mainly, and we searched the requirement to reduce the loss of the cause to almost 0dB. It was revealed that the most of the insertion loss is caused by the mode coupling between the core of the hole-assisted fiber and the index matching oil filling the holes of the hole-assisted fiber. We also revealed that the requirement to make the loss caused by the mode coupling almost 0dB is to make the filling length of the index matching oil in the hole-assisted fiber less than 50μm.
