Simultaneous WDM Signal Detection Realized by Ultrafast Field Sampling

Abstract(in English) This paper proposes a novel detection technique for wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM) signals using ultrafast field sampling method. The proposed technique simultaneously samples the total field of WDM signals before wavelength-demultiplexing, and the electrical post-processing provides a filtering function in the digital domain. As a result, the individual field of WDM channel including mutual phase relationship can be reconstructed all together. As a preliminary demonstration, the simultaneous monitoring of the WDM signals, composed of two channels with the independent states of polarization, is successfully performed using dual-channel field sampling system incorporating polarization diversity. It is also experimentally-verified that the reconstructed fields preserve the mutual phase relationship between two channels. This 'field sensitive' WDM detection may be useful for simultaneous WDM monitoring or electrically-compensating linear and/or non-linear inter-channel cross-talk in digital coherent detection system.
