Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Peripheral information is not central to a person's current task, but provides the person the opportunity to learn more, to do it better, or to keep track of other tasks. He/she might miss some peripheral information or be distracted from his/her primary task if it is not displayed effectively. It is important to understand the effect of displaying peripheral information on users' awareness. In our previous work, we evaluated cognitive characteristics of visual peripheral display. On the contrary, the use of the other media might have different cognitive characteristics. In this paper, we evaluate cognitive characteristics of auditory displayed peripheral information based on cognition time and concentration level. As a result of experiment, we found that users more easily notice information via audio media than visual media. However, the auditory display disturbs their primary task, because they tend to concentrate on hearing information.
