Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Increase of the signal transmission density and suppression of the power dissipation are key issues for realizing a future ultra-high performance system integration. An optical interconnect scheme utilizing the wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM) technique would give a solution to such requirements. Current status of research work on WDM optical interconnect devices capable of parallel signal transmission from a two-dimensional (2-D) array of vertical-cavity surfaceemitting lasers to a 2-D array of photo-detectors was presented. Some grating components and/or micromirrors were integrated in a single-story optical waveguide to construct free-space-wave add/drop multiplexers. Application potential is also discussed in comparison to electrical interconnects.
