Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) For many applications in optics, such as high-resolution observation with optical microscopy, high-density optical data storage, and optical trapping, it is desired to have tailored laser beams that can realize ultra-small focal spot. We had demonstrated two-dimensional photonic-crystal lasers can tailor output beam patterns and their polarization. Among these beam patterns, radially or azimuthally polarized doughnut beams are expected to have different intensity profiles at the focus due to their individual polarization. Here, we theoretically and experimentally study these interesting focusing properties. Moreover, we successfully demonstrate that a very small focal spot can be obtained using a radially polarized narrow ring beam.
