Bending Characteristics of One-Dimensional Photonic Crystal Coupled Resonator Optical Waveguides

Abstract(in English) One-dimensional photonic crystal coupled resonator optical waveguide(1-D PC-CROW) has attractive features such as small group velocity and ease in fabrication. Recently, we have proposed a low-loss 1-D PC-CROW structure and reported the possibility of its application for ultra compact optical integrated circuit. In order to construct various optical functional devices, waveguide bend structure will be required, however, bending characteristics of 1-D PC-CROW have not been investigated so far. In this report, we investigate the transmission characteristics of the bent 1-D PC-CROW by using finite element method and show that the broadband high transmission as high as that in a conventional silicon wire waveguide bend can be obtained.
