Blue-Emitting Bi-Activated La_2O_3 Thin-Film Electroluminescent Devices

Abstract(in English) Blue-emitting thin-film electroluminescent(TFEL) devices fabricated using a La_2O_3:Bi thin film and a thick BaTiO_3 ceramic sheet have been newly developed. Two types of thick-ceramic-insulating-layer-type TFEL devices were fabricated with or without a ZnS thin-film carrier acceleration layer. A luminance of 46.9cd/m^2 was obtained in a TFEL device fabricated with a ZnS thin-film layer and La_2O_3:Bi thin-film emitting layer deposited with a Bi content of about 2.5at.% at approximately 250℃ and postannealed at approximately 1000℃ and driven at 1kHz. The device showed blue EL emission corresponding to CIE chromaticity coordinates of (x=0.17, y=0.27).
