Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In detecting edges from noisy images, successive processes of noise reduction and edge detection are typically required. However, since noise reduction causes edge degradation, it is difficult to extract exact edge information. This paper proposes a new edge detection method from images corrupted by mixed noise. The proposed method firstly detects impulse noise by using the currently processed pixel and its neighbors, while Gaussian noise is removed considering the edge condition in the local area by using Fuzzy inference. We made a comparison with conventional methods and verified the effectiveness of the proposed method.
