Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The "Kizuna" (WINDS) was jointly developed by the NICT and the JAXA. Using an H-IIA Launch Vehicle, WINDS was successfully launched on February 23, 2008 for establishing an advanced communications network. A 1244Mbps high-speed network using a bent-pipe-relay mode is also being developed by the NICT. A 622Mbps/1244Mbps dual-rate burst modem was also developed. This high-speed burst modem is designed for user data rates of 622Mbps and 1244Mbps with FEC using Turbo Product Code for the high speed network terminal. After the launch of WINDS, the JAXA and NICT jointly performed the initial test on components of WINDS. A 622Mbps transmission test using WINDS was conducted. The results showed that the Eb/No ratio required to achieve a BER of 10^<-10> with FEC was less than 10dB.
