Abstract(in English) In this paper, we experimentally demonstrate a 400 (10λ×40)Gb/s hybrid optical switching node with dynamic resource allocation. We have proposed a hybrid optical network architecture combining two forwarding paradigms, Multi-wavelength Optical Packet Switching (MW-OPS) and Optical Circuit Switching (OCS), in order to satisfy the requirements of future Internet: (1) low power consumption, (2) high capacity, and (3) support for various applications requiring QoS-guaranteed transport. MW-OPS is capable of reducing the number of optical devices in switching nodes and total power consumption by switching a wavelength-multiplexed optical packet with a single wideband optical switch. On the other hand, OCS is capable of providing QoS-guaranteed transport and reducing power consumption by eliminating per-packet processing. Although bandwidth utilization in OCS is generally low due to the nature of circuit switching, we can achieve higher bandwidth utilization by dynamically changing the wavelength resource allocation ratio between the two forwarding paradigms. In this paper, we demonstrate a 400 (10λ×40)Gb/s hybrid optical switching node combining MW-OPS and OCS with the dynamic resource allocation mechanism. We confirmed error-free transport can be achieved in the switching node and its feasibility.
