Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Achieving accurate estimation of time of arrival (ToA) is crucial to precise ultra wide band (UWB) ranging performance. The threshold based ToA estimation method is considerably attractive because of its simplicity. In conventional threshold based methods, a single value is optimized as the universal threshold which is independent of the transmitter to receiver (Tx-Rx) distance. We introduce a distance dependent (DD) threshold based method, which is postulated on the fact that power of the direct path decreases as Tx-Rx distance increases. Consequently the threshold value for detecting the direct path peak is a function of Tx-Rx distance. As the value of the threshold in each location can be obtained from standard path loss model, this approach is generic. Ranging analysis of the measured data indicates that the performance of the proposed approach is superior to the fixed threshold.
