Spectrum Analysis of Packet Transmission Delay and Its Application to Network Management

Abstract(in English) Requirements to network quality is increasing and quality management, measurement, and monitoring are becoming more and more important. Especially for real time communication, packet transmission quality (packet loss, mean delay, and delay variation) is important. Although active measurements are often used for management of packet transmission quality, we must use statistics of the measured samples in order to acquire the status of the network. In this report, we apply the spectrum analyze to packet transmission delay and evaluate the effect of traffic congestion. According to the characteristics of packet transmission delay, we propose a method for finding the frequency for statistification of measured samples. We apply our method to the measured samples in a real network and show the efficiency of our method.
