Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) This paper describes the development of vocabulary learning materials adapted for PSP (Play Station Portable), a handheld gaming device. The materials were first created in the form of 'karuta', a traditional Japanese card game and later adapted for PSP to meet the needs of mobile society. Learners can study foreign languages anywhere and anytime with PSP. The content of the game is enjoyable for both children and adults. With this material, students can learn daily life vocabulary which is lacking in English textbooks used at junior and senior high schools. The target daily life words for this material were statistically selected based on corpus linguistics techniques.
