Abstract(in English) This paper presents the requirements and its technical background for Long Term Evolution (LTE)-Advanced, which is the candidate radio interface for IMT-Advanced in the 3^ Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) as well as an advanced radio interface of LTE. The minimum requirement for LTE-Advanced is to meet or exceed the IMT-Advanced requirements within the International Telecommunication Union Radiocommunication sector (ITU-R) time plan and LTE-Advanced is aiming at a much higher system performance than that for LTE. In addition, backward compatibility with LTE is one of the most important requirements for a smooth introduction. We propose Layered Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFDMA) to satisfy these requirements. Layered OFDMA comprises layered transmission bandwidth assignment, support for layered environments, and a layered control signaling structure, and can efficiently support a wider bandwidth maintaining the backward compatibility with LTE and achieve a higher system performance according to various radio environments. Furthermore, we propose a duplex scheme employing asymmetric transmission bandwidth, inter-cell fast radio resource management to achieve inter-cell orthogonality, enhanced multiple antenna transmission/reception scheme, and enhanced techniques to extend coverage area as key radio access techniques to satisfy the requirements.
