Iterative Decision-Directed Phase Noise Compensation for Millimeter-wave Single Carrier Transmission Systems with Frequency-domain Equalization

Abstract(in English) This report proposes a receiver that performs frequency-domain equalization (FDE) and decision-directed phase noise compensation (DD-PNC) and that can cope with multipath delay and phase noise for a millimeter-wave single-carrier (SC) transmission system. In an OFDM system that is robust to multipath propagation, a conventional receiver performs DD-PNC and can sufficiently compensate for phase noise. Thus, this report applies DD-PNC to a SC receiver employing FDE, which aims at compensating for the phase noise while alleviating degradation due to the multipath. In the initial process of the proposed receiver, a cyclic prefix (CP)-based phase noise compensator (CP-PNC) removes the phase noise using CP, which is known to the receiver, and the channel is equalized by FDE. In the iterative process, the receiver estimates the phase noise at each sampling timing using outputs of a decoder and compensates time-domain received signals for the phase noise using the estimates. Computer simulations based on IEEE802.15.3c are conducted in order to verify effectiveness of the proposed receiver. When 64QAM with the coding rate of 3/4 is employed and the phase noise level is -85dBc/Hz at the 1MHz offset, it is demonstrated that three iterations of DD-PNC can reduce to 1.7dB a E_b/N_0 gap between the proposed receiver and the one with no phase noise and the ideal parameter estimation for achieving PER=10^<-2>.
