Evaluation of Channel Capacity in Near Field MIMO Communication

Abstract(in English) In this report, a novel communication scheme, which uses near-filed MIMO transmission, is proposed and evaluated. In the near-field MIMO communication, the distance between two facing array antennas is comparable with the size of the array antenna aperture. It has been well known that the wider the element spacing is given, the better the channel capacity becomes. However, when the distance between the transmitting and receiving array antennas is short enough, the array antenna with the optimally narrow element spacing can give fairly low spatial correlation and high signal-to-noise ratio. It is found that the channel capacity with the optimal antenna spacing is higher than that of the i.i.d. channel since the near-field MIMO scheme has a high similarity with a parallel data transmission.
