Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Progress of HDD has been supported by various breakthroughs such as magnetic materials, recording systems, and manufacturing systems. The high density magnetic recording still evolving by bit patterned media technology for post perpendicular recording. Under the innovative business environments, such as HDD, the manager's skill becomes essential. And continuous industrial support on university's research and education are another important factor for success. Flash memory has grown as a competitor of HDD, but total annual storage capacity of HDD products have 100 times larger than that of flash memory. Nevertheless we will need technology innovation, such as nanoimprint lithography, the future of magnetic recording on HDD is promising.
