Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The IEEE 802.11 MAC protocol supports multiple data transmission rates at the physical layer. Each station selects an appropriate data rate in transmitting a data frame. Stations with poor channel conditions typically employ lower data rates in comparison to stations with good channel conditions. Under such scenarios, the throughput of each station becomes independent of its own data rate;rather it gets bounded by the station with the lowest data rate, and this results in a serious performance degradation of the wireless LAN. This phenomenon is well-known as the performance anomaly problem in multi-rate wireless LANs. Fairness in throughput of individual stations and efficiency of network resource usage are two conflicting goals in multi-rate wireless LANs. Previous works recommend proportional fairness as the objective of resource allocation to strike a balance between these two goals and demonstrate the equivalence of proportional fairness and air-time fairness for wireless LANs. In this paper we consider provisioning of air-time fairness by controlling CW_s of low data rate stations, in which each station receives an equal share of the wireless link occupancy time.
