Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We describe Raman gain and distributed Raman amplification (DRA) transmission characteristics in a silica core photonic crystal fiber (PCF). The validity of signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) improvement model is clarified based on both measured and calculated DRA transmission characteristics over a PCF. We show numerically that the improvement in transmission performance with DRA can be expected in the wide wavelength region of 800nm to 1600nm by using PCF. Our calculation results also indicate that PCF with enlarged effective area can be utilized for a DRA transmission in the S-L band, and it achieves improvement in SNR.
