Active Phased Array Antenna using PLL Oscillator

Abstract(in English) Developing radio communication technology, an importance of phased array antenna technique is growing up. Recent technique of a phased array has a disadvantage of radiation efficiency due to a complex feeding network and a lossy phase shifter. In addition, the complexity of the system is enlarged by the many amplifier compensating power loss. This paper proposes the novel configuration of a large scale phased array antenna using PLL oscillator. The PLLs generate the phase controlled microwave signals. The generated signals are fed to each antenna elements. The advantage of the proposed configuration is the simple configuration and the high radiation efficiency. At first, the phased array antenna with PLL oscillator was fabricated. The maximum phase shift of each output of oscillator was 90 degrees and the maximum angle of beam steering was 11.76 degrees. Next, the PLL oscillator array with frequency multiplier was fabricated. The maximum phase shift was expanded to 115.6 degrees from 45.6 degrees.
