Abstract(in English) | The non-verbal cue is often regarded as one of the important elements for smooth communication. In multi-person communication, a participation in a dialogue is indicated, for example, by the non-verbal behavior of participants' facing each other. But, even when they do not communicate, some of them sometimes feel some one of them talking to them with a good timing of utterance. In this report we focus on two types of non-verbal cues, i.e. timings of utterances and directions of faces, and examine their important functions. We assume that they cooperate in making contextual connections between individual utterances in multi-person communication. The experiment conducted under the condition of verbal communication using puppets shows that a significant connection was made when puppets make eye contact, but that it wasn't made when they didn't. Thus it is strongly suggested that the directions of faces have far more effect than the timings of utterances in multi-person communication. |
