Proposal of DisplacementSensing by Delayed Transmission/Reflection Ratiometric Sensor

Abstract(in English) We have been investigating push-pull ratiometric optical fiber interrogating systems based on PNCR (PN-code Correlation Reflectometry). PNCR realizes a wide dynamic range without using a high power light source. Push-pull ratiometry can facilitate robust interrogation against disturbances such as drift of electronics or insertion loss in an optical fiber. As part of system variations, we propose another system; Delayed Transmission/Reflection Ratiometry, we propose a novel reflection sensor unit, which can be supported by OTDR based on PNCR. The sensor unit consists of a transmission/reflection sensor (TR sensor), a dummy fiber and an isolator. Transmission and reflection output of the TR sensor are assumed to change in push-pull manner according to implied physical amount. If transmission or reflection path is given a propagation delay, they can be detected simultaneously in time domain by OTDR. The physical amount can be measured from the ratio of transmittance and reflectance. A displacement sensor system is manufactured and its sensing operation is confirmed experimentally.
