Abstract(in English) A millimeter-wave (mm-Wave) wireless personal area network (WPAN) is highly focused as a powerful mean enabling to perform very high data transmission over 1~2Gbps. In this paper, we propose a media access control (MAC) protocol for directional communication and interference avoidance in mm-Wave WPAN. Beamforming that supports directional communications is a unique operation into the MAC operations. In addition, from the properties of the small range of network (called a piconet) and the small number of communication channels with large bandwidth, WPAN system has a high chance of channel interference among networks. We introduce multi-level piconet construction to efficiently avoid channel interference as well as to easily expand the service area. The performance studies show over 1Gbps MAC throughput achievement under the proposed protocol.
