Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We developed an array-type directional borehole radar system with a circular receiving antenna array. An azimuth incident angle of an electro-magnetic wave can be estimated by the receiving array which consists of four dipole antenna elements. Due to the limitation of a diameter of a borehole, in which the radar system is inserted, separation among antenna elements is very small, even as small as few hundredth of a wavelength. Past studies have revealed a presence of mutual coupling among antenna elements, which adversely reduce the coherence of received signals at a dipole resonant frequency. In this paper we propose a use of a selective frequency dipole antenna with a PIN diode attached on its dipole arm. Unmatched resonant frequency of dipole antenna elements raises the frequency of the mutual coupling outbreak by 50MHz, resulting wider bandwidth useful for a direction of arrival estimation.
