Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The purpose of this study is to investigate comprehension processes of irony by meaningfulness-decision task. To explore this issue, five experiments were conducted with different ISI settings (1000ms, 2000ms, either 500ms or 1000ms randomly, either 300ms or 500ms randomly, either 150ms or 300ms randomly). The series of experiments showed that even if ISI was the same (that is, interval between the offset of the ironic statements and the onset of targets of meaningfulness-decision task was the same), different ISI settings led to different results. The results suggested that it is necessary to manipulate the duration of ironic statements with fixed ISI of 500ms for this purpose.
