Abstract(in English) To accomplish the satellite retransmission system for terrestrial digital broadcasting CTV signals, snow attenuation due to snow attachment on the antenna dish in snow climate areas in northern parts of Japan should be clarified. To address these issues, experiments to investigate the snow attenuation characteristics of the parabola antenna, Lune-Q antenna, negative-gradient slanted polymer-shielded Lune-Q antenna etc. were carried out by using the JSAT satellite transponder. Though those experiments, it becomes clear that the signal attenuations due to rain or snow are different between types of antenna. The reasons of signal attenuation difference comes from water or snow attachment on main dish or feeders. The processed results of horizontally implemented Lune-Q. antenna attenuation characteristics due to rain attachment are reported. By using the negative-slanted non-snow attached Lune-Q antenna, satellite link unavailability can be largely improved, compared with conventional stochastic attenuation data measured by parabola antenna.
