Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) This paper describes the network design of the new Japanese academic backbone network, SINET3, which provides a variety of network services to support research and education activities; and GMPLS-based layer-1 bandwidth-on-demand service capabilities, which became available in June 2008. First, this paper outlines the network design to flexibly and stably accommodate various network services such as multi-layer, multiple VPN, multiple QoS, and layer-1 bandwidth-on-demand services. Next, this paper describes detailed networking capabilities, advanced path calculation to get required end-to-end bandwidth, and usage examples of layer-1 bandwidth-on-demand services.
