Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) A metal-clad optical waveguide polarizer is analyzed using the three-dimensional beam-propagation method. We evaluate the basic characteristics of a two-dimensional polarizer and compare the results obtained from a two-dimensional structure with those from a three-dimensional structure. To obtain a high extinction ratio, we optimize the metal width and the depth of an embedded core, and then evaluate the wavelength response. At a polarizer length of only 4μm, the polarizer offers an extinction ratio of more than 15dB over a wavelenth range of 0.605μm to 0.670μm.
