Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We study Radio on Free-Space Optics (RoFSO) system that is envisaged to be an effective means of realizing a ubiquitous society and therefore eliminating the digital divide. This technology is effective in easing the problem associated with laying optical fiber cables, more improvement of versatility/effectiveness of RoF system and can enable quick realization of heterogeneous wireless services to disadvantaged areas. The RoFSO system can maintain a high S/N ratio for a RoF signal without OE/EO conversion requiring suppression of distortion occurrence for achieving high link operating rate. In order to realize the above mentioned RoFSO system the influence of optical beam propagation through the atmosphere should be considered in the design optimization of the optical antenna and development of an optical system for high coupling efficiency of free-space and SMF. Also use optical beacon for beam arrival angle detection as well as atmospheric turbulence compensation using FPM tracking system is an important technical challenge. We present results on the design of optical system and the evaluation of performance characteristics of the separate functions for optical wireless module we have developed and confirmed the communication characteristics which were set as goals at the beginning.
