Development of OCB-LCD Improving Response at Low Temperature

Abstract(in English) Display devices especially for automobile-use need motion visibility at any situation for secure safety. However, at low temperature, general LCDs have problems of motion blur due to slowdown of response characteristics. To solve the problem we have newly developed high performance OCB-LCD with fast response at low temperature. This is accomplished by use of low rotational viscosity LC material and improvement bend transition. The new OCB-LCD achieves to keep very fast response time and bend transition. The response time is 1/3 of conventional OCB-LCD at -20℃ without changing present optical design and the bend transition time is about 1 second at -30℃. This performance is suitable for automobile-use.
