Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) An expert at drawing facial caricatures has his own drawing style. So he describes facial features of the target with different exaggeration from that of another artist. We have let 13 experts transform line drawings generated by tracing the targets' face without expression into caricatures reflecting their features. As a result, we found that there are various exaggeration styles among artists. In this paper we propose a system for synthesizing facial caricatures with some styles of exaggeration automatically from an input line drawing generated by tracing a target face without expression. This system learned exaggeration from caricatures which they synthesized in the previous experiment by using neural network. Results demonstrate that exaggeration in an output caricature is similar to that generated by a corresponding artist and this system can automatically synthesize caricatures with some styles of exaggeration.
