Preparation of Organic EL Devices with Emissive Layer of Vinyl Compounds

Abstract(in English) Polymeric thin films were deposited by evaporating vinyl monomers followed by thermal polymerization by heating the substrate. This method was applied for preparing organic EL devices, and the influence of polymerization on device characteristics was investigated. Red-emitting devices were prepared by combining DvTPD host material with an Iridium-complex dopant. The deposition polymerization was effective in improving luminescence efficiency due to effective confinement of charge recombination region into the emissive layer as a consequence of smaller hole mobility of the polymerized film. Blue-emitting devices were prepared by using mCP and its vinyl derivative vmCP as host materials. However, vinyl modification to mCP was harmful for efficient energy transfer from the host to dopant molecules. The red-emitting and blue-emitting layers were stacked to prepare a white-emitting device. The deposition polymerization was effective in improving the luminescence efficiency and in stabilizing the luminescence spectra.
