Abstract(in English) For creating the traffic sign database on GIS, we propose a method for recognizing traffic signs from video images. The proposed method consists of two parts: a sign detection part and a recognition part. The detection part first detects initial regions that includes traffic signs in each frame and starts tracking their positions by mean shift. When the likelihood of the tracking region is the most maximum, it outputs the region as a candidate sign region. Next, the recognition part recognizes the candidate sign region by eigen space method, which subspace made from the color histograms of the sliced model images and the candidate sign region. We show the effectiveness of our method by real image examples.
