A Reconfigurable RF Front-End : A Multi-band Power Amplifier

Abstract(in English) Future mobile terminals will operate in the wireless environment where the variety of wireless systems coexist and intermingle, and will be expected to be available for all of those systems. However, it is difficult for an RF front-end, which includes a power amplifier (PA), filters and isolators, to operate in multiple frequency bands with adequate performance. We have proposed a novel reconfigurable RF front-end that employs band-switchable matching networks as a solution to this technical issue. As the first step to confirm the feasibility of the proposed band-switchable front-end, a band-switchable multi-band PA using LTCC technology was fabricated and tested. The PA employs a low-loss reconfigurable matching network that functions as a band-switchable matching network. Due to their simple configurations, the fabricated LTCC band-switchable PA is compact and available for highly efficient operation in multiple frequency bands.
