Abstract(in English) The SAWG (Smart Antenna Working Group) of Software Defined Radio Forum (SDR Forum) has been developing standard models supporting inter-operability and compatibility of various kinds of smart antenna systems operating in a SDR (Software Defined Radio) network following an open-architecture. The Smart Antenna Specification consists of three facilities: (1) control facilities, which are used for controlling the smart antenna system, (2) Algorithm facilities, which are used for executing various algorithms such as beamforming, DOA (Direction-of-Arrival) estimation, STC (Space Time Coding), channel estimation, spatial multiplexing, etc, and (3) Synchronization facilities, which are used for calibration and synchronization. This paper introduces the Smart Antenna Specification, illustrating its use as a standard model and standard service in advanced wireless networks, and a design example of the standard Smart Antenna system developed in Hanyang University.
