Single-camera based gaze tracking in wide-area and its applications in gaze-interactive systems

Abstract(in English) We propose a single-camera based gaze tracking method for multiple users by using wide-angle high-resolution camera that substantially relaxes the practical constraints possessed by most conventional methods. Many gaze-tracking systems including some commercial schemes have been proposed so far. However, the application domain of gaze estimation is still limited (e.g, measurement devices for HCI issues, input devices for VDT works) due to the limitations of such systems. In our method, 3D head-eye model calibration process runs automatically and users does not need to be aware of it. By using our proposed method, we can realize gaze-interactive systems in public space. In this paper, we also introduce gaze-aware interactive signboard system that reacts to the user's gaze and provide complementary guide information via voice and body motion of a stuffed toy robot, and show its demonstration experiment results conducted at shopping mall.
