Abstract(in English) | In this paper we evaluate the comparative performances of Fiber Delay Line (FDL) buffers with Variable Delay Line (VDL) and without it. Throughput of packet networks with FDL buffers are limited by packet collisions and maximum lingth of FDL. Packet gap, wasted time between two transmitted packets, is inevitable in FDL buffers unlike RAM buffers. We proposes FDL buffers with VDL to reduce packet loss and enhance throughput by squeezing packet gap. By introducing VDL, the gap between packets in FDL buffers can be reduced by about 60 persent and throughput can be enhanced by about 27 persent. |
