| Abstract(in English) | One of the goals of the project "The Development of Anglo-Saxon Language and Linguistic Universals" (organized by Senshu University, Japan) is to develop an OCR system for medieval English manuscripts, that is, historical handwritten English documents. In this report, we will discuss characteristics of medieval English printed documents as a preliminary study towards the above goal. In addition, a preliminary recognition experiment was conducted on a small-scale character set from a medieval printed document, called "Pierce Plowman" (printed in 1550). |
